More reflections in Barbarossa.

People, places, beliefs.

Luke is my oldest friend. We met aged 11 when we started secondary school, though it wasn’t until we found ourselves in the same ‘A’ level Maths class that we became friends. We’ve both just entered our 70th year…

I began to wonder about friendships. My secondary school had 2000 boys and I only ever see one of them, though I occasionally chat with my cousin Tony who was three years ahead of me. I had other cousins at that school too!

I think I could probably write down 50 to 100 names from those days if I tried.

But why?

Every time I meet Luke back in Liverpool it feels like we had met yesterday even though there are sometimes many years in between.  When it comes to messages and birthday greeting and things it is always me that makes the overtures – and sometimes I just cant be arsed.

I am a grumpy old git and most of my social media posts are responses to the idiotic right-wing fascists like Trump and Mini-Trump Farage. Though I am also fond of sharing jokes about sex and farts. Actually, that sounds like the same topic!

I just read a post that God created Adam and Eve and they were Naieve wide eyed people in paradise, created without knowledge of right and wrong. So how did Eve know it was wrong to eat the magic apple that the talking snake suggested? And how did she know to cover her fanny with a fig leaf?

Maybe it’s a tale from misogynistic patriarchal desert tribes!

I have been a teacher all my life. That doesn't just mean in School! I taught my brothers to ride bikes and go camping in the mountains. I taught Football, Cricket, Squash, Sailing, Climbing and Karate. In BNI I became the Education Coordinator. With my Property Business I laid on Investment Seminars. I taught my sons to Fish for Carp. And I still teach Maths and Physics to students who want to go to University to study Medicine or Engineering. Now I am teaching people the things I am learning online.
